TRF currently sits at 8.9% refund rate, but my sales are low, so a few sales are from trusted people, not the general public, who are more likely to refund. (Can't find the source for this, but I believe it was a reddit thread on the indiedev reddit where several indie devs had compiled their sales and refund data together, these seem like fairly common numbers to see) The average indie game on Steam usually has a refund rate of around 10-12%.įor your first indie game on Steam, it's expected you'll have a refund rate of around 15-18%. I believe the 9.03m game that was supposed to aid those in the Japanese earthquake back in 2011 suffered quite badly with this, as the game was only a short experience of about 15 minutes, and large portions of the buyers refunded. I think it's the same policy adopted by some other stores as well. It's quite damaging to short indie games or "experiences". And I've refunded a couple of games due to friends wanting to gift me them after I bought them etc.
